Becoming pure souls again

*1. Is this a Demoniac World?*

If we see today’s trend in this world, we see more and more wars happening everywhere. This is due to the demoniac nature of many people in this world. Actually even if we go to heaven, there also we hear about demons attacking the residents of heaven. If we take any religious scripture, surely they mention demons who are also called asuras. Some may say satans, some may say devils, evil spirits and so on. Incarnations of the Lord periodically come and kill these demons all the time. We can see this in every purana we read.

Opposite to demons are devatas. It is said in the purport of Srimad Bhagavatam 1.13.49 by Srila Prabhupada that there are two classes of human beings in this world, envious (demons) and the obedient (devatas). Since the Supreme Lord is one and the father of all living beings, the envious living beings are also His sons, but they are known as the asuras. But the living beings who are obedient to the supreme father are called devatas, or demigods, because they are not contaminated by the material conception of life. Not only are the asuras envious of the Lord in even denying the existence of the Lord, but they are also envious of all other living beings.

*2. Am I a demon (asura)?*

What is the nature of these asuras? Gita chapter 16 describes the nature of asuras in great detail. Srimad Bhagavatam 1.16.34 also says:

yo vai mamātibharam āsura-vaṁśa-rājñām
akṣauhiṇī-śatam apānudad ātma-tantraḥ
tvāṁ duḥstham ūna-padam ātmani pauruṣeṇa
sampādayan yaduṣu ramyam abibhrad aṅgam

Purport by Srila Prabhupada: “The asuras want to enjoy a life of sense gratification, even at the cost of others’ happiness. In order to fulfill this ambition, the asuras, especially atheistic kings or state executive heads, try to equip themselves with all kinds of deadly weapons to bring about a war in a peaceful society. They have no ambition other than personal aggrandizement, and thus mother earth feels overburdened by such undue increases of military strength. By increase of the asuric population, those who follow the principles of religion become unhappy, especially the devotees, or devas. In such a situation, the Personality of Godhead incarnates to vanquish the unwanted asuras and to reestablish the true principles of religion….”

In the name of religion and rituals such as gadhimai, demons perform atrocities. As per the bhakti scriptures, any religion who supports eating meat are clearly demoniac. We should simply reject it outright. The statistics say that every day about 56 billion animals are killed in this world to satisfy the people’s stomachs. That comes to about 39 million animals killed every minute, or about *648,000 animals slaughtered every second*! So, you can see how many demons are living in this world!

Also the demoniac people will never understand the supremacy of Lord Krishna and do not surrender to Him.

na māṁ duṣhkṛitino mūḍhāḥ prapadyante narādhamāḥ
māyayāpahṛita-jñānā āsuraṁ bhāvam āśhritāḥ .. Gita 7.15

“Those miscreants who are grossly foolish, lowest among mankind, whose knowledge is stolen by illusion, and who partake of the atheistic nature of demons, do not surrender unto Me.”

Rather they say Lord Krishna is a human, Lord Krishna came from Brahman, Lord Krishna is just a yogi, or is just an avatar, or is a prophet and so on. They are all demons! There are even so many called satgurus who say that Lord Krishna is a man! What a demoniac nature they have!

*3. Krishna Bhaktas are above Devas*

We saw about devas and asuras. But, Krishna bhaktas are even higher than devas. They eat only prasadam, the sanctified food after offering it to Lord Krishna. Unless offered to Lord Krishna and then blessed by Guru, they won’t eat. They are suddha sattvic by nature and are considered higher than devatas.

One may ask this question, “If I am a demon, can I change myself?”

Yes, because our eternal nature is pure and divine. There are many incidents where many demoniacs became pure Krishna devotees.

By our eternal nature, we are all pure jivas, lovingly serving the Lord. So, what we need to do is simply clean our anarthas (contaminations) and become pure again.

Jagai and Mathai are just one classic example. Jagai and Mathai were the most sinful demons. But by the mercy of Lord Caitanya they all became pure bhaktas!

To change ourself and become a pure bhakta, simply chant the holy names of Lord Krishna and *cry for the Lord’s mercy*.

That alone will do the miracle! All our bad habits, anarthas including eating meat, will automatically go away. This process never failed in the entire history!
And there is no harm in trying it.
