Common people may complain that Srila Swami Maharaj (Srila Prabhupada) criticized many. But unless such acharyas wake up the jivas by pointing out the faults, how can we understand spiritual truths? Whenever Srila Prabhupada saw something that helped a person come closer to Krishna he encouraged it, and whenever he saw something that would take a person away from Krishna he criticized it. As a Gaudiya Vaisnava that was both his duty and responsibility and he took them seriously.
1) He criticized Christians for killing animals when one of their instructions is ‘thou shalt not kill.’
2) He criticized Science for claiming that in the future it would demonstrate life originated from matter.
3) He criticized Politicians for not leading their citizens towards spiritual goals.
4) He criticized Education system for not teaching about God and soul.
5) He criticized materialistic people for their absorption in sense gratification.
6) He criticized hippies for their drug taking and loose attitude towards illegal sex.
7) He criticized Vivekananda for teaching that all paths lead to the same goal.
8) He also pointed out that while he was doing a major operation to save the souls, Vivekananda was sticking more knives.
Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati Thakura also had specifically said not to follow the habits of eating meat, drinking and be merry, as Vivekananda did and supported.
Srila Gurudeva also warned about various so called sad gurus misleading the people and taking them into mayavadism.
Actually all what our acharyas were doing, are chastisements for us to better understand and be strong in Krishna Consciousness. Eventually the jivas will be awakened and realize the truth.
